British Transport Police (BTP) have various opportunities for Police Constables to join our Learning and Development team as Personal Safety Trainers in Central London, Manchester, or Birmingham.

The purpose of this role is to deliver high‑quality Personal Safety Training across a range of programmes to ensure British Transport Police officers, Special Constables and staff are equipped with the skills, fitness and confidence required for safe and effective operational performance. PST Instructors will design, develop and deliver training in line with national standards, maintain their own operational competence through frontline engagement and CPD, and provide support across wider Learning & Development functions as needed. Where required, the role also contributes to recruit training through the delivery of First Aid Module 2, ensuring all training meets organisational, legislative and College of Policing guidelines.

Please note, as BTP are a national Force, travel will be required to other locations to deliver training which will include overnight stays.

Initial Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be a current or former officer from a Home Office Police Force, Police Scotland, PSNI or BTP. 
  • Transferees must be substantive in rank and have completed probation
  • Re-joiners must apply within 2 years of leaving and have been substantive in rank
  • Must have lived in the UK for the past 3 consecutive years
  • No live misconduct warnings or performance issues
  • Cannot be under current investigation by another force
  • No active CCJs, unmanaged IVAs, or bankruptcy
  • We do not accept applications from those dismissed from another force

Role Specific Eligibility Criteria

  • PST Instructor qualified
  • Current experience delivering Personal Safety Training, with a current training delivery log and an up to date Continued Professional Development (CPD) log
  • Current First Aid at Work Certificate or willingness to complete
  • Level 2 Gym Instructor Qualification (or equivalent) or willingness to complete
  • Successful completion of Training Essentials Programme or willingness to complete 
  • Level 4 Training qualification or willingness to work towards 
  • Assessors Qualification (A1, CAVA, AVRA etc.) or willingness to complete
  • Working experience of maintaining accurate records and conducting risk assessments and accident reporting.
  • Instructional/coaching skills with a strong emphasis on progression and regression for individuals within a group setting.
